This myth has been with us for many years now. One of the sparks of this myth may be that when the U.S.A. landed on the moon, they could've possibly seen other man made structures (although this is highly unlikely). There aren't really more than two perspectives on this myth, either yes it is true, or no it is false. There really isn't any room for an "in between" perspective.

There isn't much science to this myth, just "can you see the great wall of china from space?" Satellites and rocket ships may have to do with it in a little way but not much else.
This myth has a hint of truth in it, you can in fact see the great wall of china from space, according to Scientific American, but it is not the only man made structure visible from space. the only way that you can see the great wall of China from space is when the weather conditions are perfect and when a satellite or rocket ship is in low orbit. Websites like Snopes, The Great Wall of China's website, Live Science Online and Funtrivia.com are all reputable sites (snopes and Funtrivia.com are debatable) that say the same thing. The great wall of china is not visible from outer space. I'm going with them on this one. As much as i wanted to see the great wall of china from space i can't because it's just not physically possible.

it seems that this is another case of oversimplification of a fact until it becomes misleading, such as many peoples' incorrect supposition that they exhale pure carbon dioxide.
Wow that's really interesting, Jacob. I always thought that you could see it from space.
As Sam said, I always believed this myth to be true. But I don't think there was enough science related content in this article to fully convince me otherwise.
It would be interesting to learn how often the conditions are just perfect to see the Great Wall from space. I'm confused on your closing sentence when you said "i wanted to see the great wall of china from space i can't because it's just not physically possible." when just a few sentences above it says that you can see it when the conditions are perfect which means in some manner it is visible from space.
Merrit, I think he means that in a shuttle with while close to the Earth you can see the wall, however when you're far away it's almost impossible to see with the naked eye.
Like Merritt said, it would be nice to know how often the conditions are right to see the great wall from space. Because you can see it from space, even if it was only one day a year, proves that it is possible. Nice post.
As some of the other people said, I thought this was true also. But, like Merritt said, I think the last paragraph had a confusing sentence or two. I do think though that you did a nice job with citing a lot of different sources.
I think that this was very interesting as well. The great wall of china is so big i was sure that would be ablt to see it from outter space but apperantly not, but i agree with rachel, nice job citinng your sources.
sam said i had heard it both ways but i guess this is the truth
